THE IIT ENIGMA - Hype vs Reality ?

Image
DISCLAIMER - While this article delves into the debate of whether IITs are overrated or underrated, it's crucial to acknowledge their well-deserved reputation and the immense contributions of their students and alumni. This is intended as a constructive analysis, not a criticism. Many of us are familiar with the sentence "IIT jao, life is set"!. And now, while there might be some amount of truth to it, the above statement is a far cry from veracity.  Let me give some context to the prestigious institute.  Taking into account the statistics from the last few years, approximately over a million students appear for the JEE Main exam annually, which serves as the primary screening for JEE Advanced (the entrance exam for IITs). How many make it ? Hardly a fraction of them. As of 2024, there were a total of 17,760  seats in the 23 IITs across India.  This included a Female Supernumerary seat. This makes the acceptance rate drop to less than 2%, mak...

TERRORISM - Strategic tool or International threat ?

Image
TERRORISM -  Strategic tool or International threat   Terrorism is at a crossroad of perception between what is called a " strategic tool to assert power and  independence " but globally recognized as an undeniable threat! This article intends to present an unbiased perspective on what is morally right and globally acceptable in the pursuit of international peace and security—core values that terrorism fundamentally undermines and deliberately disregards.   Before we delve right in, let's have a clear picture as to why terrorism was created -  Terrorism is not new  and neither is it any form of random violence. It is calculative, strategic and has a  motive massive than just religious atrocities.  It dates back centuries. One noticeable incident that fueled terrorist sentiments was the protracted conflict of the Soviet - Afghan war. The US and Pakistan indirectly supported mujhaideen financially and provided it with warfare weapons...

In Defence of Wealth: Filthy money or Filthy mind-set?

In Defence of Wealth: Filthy money or Filthy mind-set?     While Research may indicate that materialism is negatively related to happiness, it also provides compelling evidence that money is positively correlated with happiness. One may question the ambiguity radiated by the above statistics. But the truth is that, this preconception of money arises due to Social conditioning as well as socioeconomic status that influences perceptions of money and its morality. The corroboration to this statement comes from the fact that over 75% of lower-income respondents agreed with the statement that "the love of money is the root of all evil," whereas 50% of higher-income respondents disagreed with this sentiment. This stark difference in mind-set illustrates a profound truth: you cannot achieve something you fundamentally reject. Just as one cannot grow a garden while cursing the soil, wealth cannot flourish in a mind that condemns its very existence.     Individual...

Nostalgizing

End of an era — Goodbye to my school days The past decade in DPS went by in the blink of an eye. Tons of memories — bitter and sweet. From Exam blues to the frantic eyes staring at the answer sheets that were about to be distributed wondering who scored the highest , I loved every part of it. Well not quite, but as you see, you require both the white and the black keys of a piano to create a masterpiece. From getting yelled at by your teachers for not turning in an assignment that was due for the past 194934 days, to letting the weight fall away in the company of those who loved you, after scoring a certified C minus in telugu, I wouldn’t have had it any other way! Comparing answer scripts, debating, arguing and deliberating (  skills that proved to be functional in my DPSH MUN  ) with classmates whether or not a quarter should be given for X answer. During the P.E period, remembering the spark of those early, innocent infatuations whilst playing 21 dares with your pals...
